The magic and mystery of Africa come alive in the colonial ambiance of elegant &Beyond Ngala Safari Lodge. Wrapped in a timeless, unhurried atmosphere, combined with the quaint traditions of a bygone era, the thatched cottages create an aura of romance and nostalgia.
Tucked under a canopy of mopane and tamboti trees, Ngala Safari Lodge boasts 20 classic thatched cottages, including three family cottages with interleading rooms, and the spacious Family Suite. Each spacious ensuite cottage exudes a romantic colonial ambiance with nostalgic safari memorabilia throughout. Floor-to-ceiling glass windows make the most of sunny safari days and a private veranda offers the perfect setting for private dinners. The gracious Family Suite accommodates four guests and includes a private swimming pool and the use of a private vehicle.
The lodge’s beautiful pool area beckons to those seeking refreshment and relaxation. A sparkling swimming pool and sundeck overlook a natural riverine woodland, ideal for avid birdwatchers, while a tranquil spa and a well-equipped fitness sala can be enjoyed in between game viewing adventures. Hearty breakfasts and delicious lunches are served in the dappled shade of an enormous weeping boerbean tree. Upon their return from exhilarating evening drives, guests are welcomed by Ngala’s warm, hospitable staff and a banquet set in the elegant candlelit courtyard or an African feast in the open-air traditional boma. The Lodge’s spacious thatched bar, dining and sitting areas are open to the warm breezes of the inviting African bushveld.
&Beyond Ngala Private Game Reserve shares an unfenced boundary with the renowned Kruger National Park, South Africa’s largest wildlife sanctuary. A spectacular diversity of wildlife, including elephant, leopard, spotted hyena, giraffe, buffalo and white rhino, moves through this immense wilderness. Meaning “lion” in Shangaan, Ngala lives up to its name and supports several prides of these powerful cats. Cheetah and African wild dog also occasionally move through the reserve.
The first private game reserve to be incorporated into the Kruger National Park, &Beyond Ngala boasts exclusive traversing rights over 14 700 hectares of game-rich wilderness. The Reserve offers an intimate African wildlife experience, led by expert ranger and tracker teams. In one of Africa’s most innovative conservation partnership agreements, an annual lease, traversing fee and percentage of Ngala’s profits are paid to the National Parks Trust to further conservations projects throughout South Africa.
&Beyond Ngala is accessible to guests in two-wheel drive vehicles. The distance from Johannesburg to Ngala is approximately 500 km and the drive takes six hours on tarred roads.
Federal Air operates a daily flight from OR Tambo to Ngala Airstrip, which is a five-minute drive from the Lodge. There are daily SA Express scheduled flights from Johannesburg and Cape Town to Eastgate Airport. The transfer from Eastgate Airport is by road and takes an hour.

&Beyond Ngala enjoys hot and wet summers, as well as cool and dry winters. Late afternoon and evening thundershowers can be expected from September to April.

Visas and documents
Nationals of other African countries often do not require visas for South Africa. Visitors must be in possession of a passport that is valid for at least six months from the date of travel and should have two blank pages available in their passport.
